Welcome to the Home of
ALEVI
ALEVI is founded by Osher Levi, born in Israel of Iraqi and Polish descent, and John Alevizakis, a Greek /Canadian. They
now call Northern California their base, but are at heart gypsies, so home is wherever they are, and wherever the music takes them.
They are also two-thirds of the world music trio "OJOLO", who has recorded and performed extensively.
The Red Sea is Alevi's first full -length album, a collection of songs written on the shores of the Red Sea in the Sinai desert.
Alevi is very grateful to the local tribes and musicians there, many of them Bedouins, who welcomed them and shared with them their music and culture.
The recordings were then completed in the port town of Jaffo, on the Mediteranean, with the help of ney master Amir Shahsar,
and master percussionist Avi Agababa.
The final track, "House of Prayer", features the haunting beauty of the lyra master Ross Daly.
Many thanks to these friends and collaborators for their special gifts.
